What you'll be able to do after this module
- Identify every common extinguisher type by colour (UK) or label (US), and say what fire each one is for.
- Name the parts of an extinguisher and what each one does.
- Carry out a monthly inspection and an annual service under supervision.
- Explain what's due when: extended service / discharge test BS vs 6-year maintenance and hydrostatic test NFPA.
- Recognise defects and know when an extinguisher must be condemned.
- Apply Dow's additional requirements.
How long?
About 1 week of reading alongside shadowing an engineer, then supervised practical work until each sign-off item is complete.
