How Dow requirements work

On Dow sites, your work is governed by Dow's CTT requirements as well as the standards. Each equipment module has its own Dow Requirements page, which shows only where Dow adds to or differs from BS and NFPA.

How to read a Dow page

Each Dow page uses the same table:

Topic BS says NFPA says Dow CTT says Which do we follow?
e.g. frequency of X ... ... ... ...

and purple boxes for anything Dow-specific:

Order of precedence

flowchart TD
  A{"Does a Dow CTT cover it?"} -- Yes --> B["Follow the CTT<br/>(unless it's less strict than UK law requires)"]
  A -- No --> C{"Does the contract name<br/>BS or NFPA?"}
  C -- "BS" --> D["Follow the BS"]
  C -- "NFPA" --> E["Follow the NFPA"]
  C -- "Both / unclear" --> F["Ask your supervisor<br/>and record the answer"]
  B --> G{"Conflict with law<br/>or something unsafe?"}
  G -- Yes --> F
Tip: on a phone, scroll sideways or rotate to landscape.

Key takeaways

  • Dow pages only list differences and additions. Everything else follows the standard.
  • Every Dow requirement must show its CTT reference.
  • Conflict or unclear? Ask, then record the answer.
